Sugatha Kumari is a rare mixture of a widely-respected poet and a gutsy social activist. It was the savaging of nature in a fast modernizing India that led her to combine her poetry and her activism. Although best known as a poet environmentalist, she is also the founder of Abhaya -- an organization which gives shelter and hope to female mental patients. Though she had great success and satisfaction in changing the real world, she finds equal nourishment in the process of creation and the world of the imagination. |
