I am Nisha, live in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA and work for FedEx Freight Systems. I have 2 kids Nidhi (4 years) and Ratna (1 year). I grew up in my grandparent’s house at Pattenchery where I had my primary education (KKMHS Vandithavalam). I completed my engineering degree at Govt. Engineering College Trichur after my pre-degree at Mercy College, Palakkad. I got my MBA in Technology Management from Colorado Technical University, Colorado Springs.

I think my childhood experiences shaped my character. Everyone I knew believed in me, my abilities and judgments. They gave me freedom to make my own decisions and as a result I grew up being a responsible individual. Let me tell you an incident on this. When I was in 9th grade my grandfather asked me to escort my aunty (recently married) back to her house. That was a long trip and we had to change multiple buses. This was a big commitment for me because I was still a small girl and my aunt was wearing a lot of ornaments. When somebody questioned my reliability as a companion, my grandfather said, “It is OK for her to wear those ornaments because Nisha will watch out for her”. I was not a karate champion but just wanted to show you how much my family believed in me.

My parents Sarada and Pazhanan are settled in Kanjikode (Palakkad). My dad always tried not to miss a single day of work. I remember him waking up in the middle of the night and leaving for his shift even when the weather was bad. My mother, being a great host, welcomed guests home and treated them with good food. My parents were and always been, very close to me.

As a teenager, I read a lot of books in psychology and philosophy. They taught me the power of positive thinking and helped me believe in the existence of an eternal power (which I call God). My father-in-law was diagnosed with small cell carcinoma of the lung in 1999. Since his cancer was in the final stages, doctors didn’t have much faith in his survival. But he was a great believer in himself and decided to fight against the disease. It was a surprise even for the doctors when he defeated cancer and survived for 6 more years.

Another person who influenced me was Vijaya Shekaran Sir, a math teacher in my high School at Vandithavalam. He taught us the importance of dreaming higher, working harder and achieving goals with the right attitude. He worked hard to create a better breed of people from a small remote village. Today for him, it’s a dream come true, we have SYNTHESIZERS (that is what we call ourselves) all around the world.

Unni is very different. He can concentrate on his work for long hours without food, water and even sleep. He is a perfectionist – may be because he is a Virgo! I have seen him redo everything from scratch after days of hard work when he finds “lack of perfection”. He taught me dedication and enthusiasm and perfection in life. I and Unni share a lot of common things too. They include willingness to help others and enjoy the company of our friends.

I wanted to have an arranged love marriage and the dream came true when my parents agreed to it. We were engaged for two years before getting married. Unni's mother is a great cook and so is everyone in his family. Unni can taste a food and say what exactly went wrong. Nandan's (Unni's brother) fish curry is one of the best I have ever tasted.

In the recent past I was greatly motivated by Abdul Kalam's (President of India) books, especially the “Ignited Minds”. After reading those books, with the help of SYNTHESIZERS, we have started different projects back in our home village Vandithavalam to ignite the minds of younger generation.

Our kids have brought a different outlook to our lives. Though at times I get exhausted, they bring enormous happiness. Like any other parents we also feel our kids are special and precious. They are well behaved and don’t give us any trouble. We wanted them to enjoy the same things we enjoyed and so we didn’t change our lifestyles after they were born.
