Son of Njayapilly Illathu Neelakantan Moosath and Athiyarathu Narayani Amma, Kunjunni started his career as a teacher at the Chelari school. Kunjunni mostly wrote brief verse noted for its aural impact, simplicity, intensity and directness of expression. His poems comprise simple words, but they evoke complex thoughts. Teased about being short, he wrote: Pokkamillayma'yaa'nente pokkam. His major contribution was in the field of children's literature.
