Malayalam, the language of the God's own country
Malayalam is the language spoken by the people of Kerala, a small state situated at the south-west part of India. Kerala, which is called as the God's own country, is the only state to achieve 99% literacy. Malayalam, the language, which has been enriched through the ages by various art forms, owes its origin to the rich cultural and traditional heritage of this part of the country.

Malayalam poetry is believed to have started in the first half of the thirteenth century. The diction of the poems during those days was far away from the spoken variety and was highly influenced by Sanskrit. Please visit www.malayalamresourcecentre.org to read more about malayalam poems and literature.

History of this site
Back in 1998, we were searching for a theme for our homepage. A unique theme that was not very popular in those days. We don't remember who (among us) came up with the idea of poems. It perfectly suited us since we had a fairly large collection of poems and never got bored listening to them again and again. Now here we are with "Our small world" of poems.

Important note for the visitors

We are in the process of adding more poems to the collection so please visit us often. There are a few things we would like to remind you.

  • Due to possible copyright issues we prefer to stream the audio files instead of you directly downloading them.
  • Make sure that you allow cookies and java script on your browser.
  • You should have Real Player installed on your system to listen to the poems (You can download Real Player from http://www.real.com).
  • If you face any problems please mail us at nishaunni@yahoo.com

Now sit back, relax and enjoy but don't forget to tell your friends...
